Hello guys! How are you? I really miss blogging and crafting like before – the before as in simple crafts, crafts that could be added as decor element to homes. But never mind I think I am getting back on track 😀 Well most of you must know that I have a 3 year old daughter – Grace and she is going to go to school – from tomorrow!! Cant believe she has grown so much! We in India, we don’t have a separate room generally for the kids to play like the nursery rooms maintained in homes abroad. I have tried a lot to get her to play in a separate room so that my living room is devoid of the huge mess when I get back from office but when you are an office going mom, I guess you have to sacrifice somethings right? But anyways I thought maybe its because she doesn’t find her room pretty enough. So we went to solve the problem and here we are – with a pretty DIY rainbow nursery wall decor with old cardboards 🙂

Before I start, I did not make this to perfection as I let my daughter do all the painting. I think she might have an extra affection towards her work if she did it all by her own plus she does paint great ! I started off by cutting out a rainbow shape from a cardboard sheet I had. For the circular shape, tie a pen/marker on a twine and use it as a compass. If your cardboard is not big enough, its okay – there is no compulsion that the rainbow should be exactly semicircular shape. See mine is like a quarter shaped or so !

Mark the borders form your rainbow shades and let your child paint or you can paint yourself 😉 I used the acrylic colors from fevicryl and I didn’t have all the rainbow shades so I just skipped a few but it still looks like rainbow 😀

The rainbow has a finish only with pretty clouds so I cut out random cloud shapes, to fit at both ends of the rainbow and painted them with white. I used white gesso from camlin for this as its more opaque and gives matte finish but you can use any white paint available with  you. I drew pretty eyes and eyelashes too with acrylic paints and a little blush on the cheeks with itsybitsy chalkpaints which seems to be non existent in the pic 🙂

Grace was super happy and she wanted to stick them on her nursery wall right away but till they dried, we continued our photoshoot 😛

And we finally put it up on her nursery wall. We already have a DIY tent ( oops I never posted the tutorial right?) at the corner of the room so placed the rainbow somewhere near to it. Yeah the wall is already filled with decals 😛

The happy girl spends some considerate amount of time in her newly decorated place and I promised her that I would revamp the DIY tent. Any suggestion for online fabric stores with cute fabrics? Are you a mom trying your hand at nursery decoration/setup? Hope you liked this DIY rainbow nursery wall decor with old cardboards and do Tag along to see more nursery decor projects 🙂
