How to make Colorful Paper Cup Diwali Lights garland
These are really effortless yet chic decor piece for your doorway or accent wall and you can customize it for any festive occasion you want by changing the paints you choose. Start off by selecting good quality paper cups that they don’t soak and become flimsy when you apply paint. The smaller the size, better as it will be just enough to hide and allow light from rice lights.
Paint the outer side of the paper cup with shades of your choice. I used Faber Castell fabric paints in various shades and you can choose even metallic shades if you want more Indian festive vibes. For the bottom of the paper cup, I painted with Fevicryl gold shade and I made it common for all the shades of paper cups.
Decorate the paper cups now with any embellishments you have. The easiest and time saving technique will be to stick self adhesive rhinestone/bead string or ball chains that are readily available in local market. I have used a self adhesive rhinestone string sticker here at the top and bottom rim of the painted paper cup.
Once everything is ready, cut out a small cross on the bottom of the paper cup so that you can insert your rice light into it. The cross cut will hold your rice light snuggly inside the paper cut and also you can remove out easily as well.
I have used these colorful paper cups in two way here – as a colorful tealight holder and as a Colorful Paper Cup Diwali Lights garland.
For the Colorful tealight holder, you will need flame-less tealights to insert underneath your upside down paper cup and normal tealight to keep above the paper cup. I did not have a flame-less one so used the rice light string but I am sure it would look awesome if you arrange these with flame-less ones inside. I also used some golden decorative diya holder to add much more prettinness but unfortunately I noticed that I had clicked the dented side of the holder only while editing the pics 🙁
You will need rice light string to make these Colorful Paper Cup Diwali Lights garland. Tuck in each of the rice lights into the cross cuts on each of the paper cups and make a string of it. If you feel the gaps between each light is more, fold the light string into two, carefully arranging so that the cups in second row occupies the gaps in first row.
I loved making these Colorful Paper Cup Diwali Lights garland:) Totally colorful, cheerful and festive 🙂 Do you have any paper cup ideas? Check out other diwali crafts from this blog here and wishing you all happy diwali 🙂
